Economic Significance of Festivals in Hindu Culture
(Note: This is a work of fiction by lionking !)
Hindus have lots and lots of festivals. The Hindu Scriptures mention about the auspiciousness of certain periods in a year … and there are “many” such periods in the year, wherein we find references to “auspicious time/day” … and immediately … Hindus jump upon the chance to “celebrate in those auspicious time/day” with much pomp and color. How can the Hindus miss “any” chance to celebrate … and they surely get some “bahana” to celebrate and have a good time.
Be it Holi, Diwali, Balaji Kalayana Mahotsavam, Ram Navami, Durga Puja, Sankranthi, Krishnasthami, etc … there are many “bahanas” for the Hindus to make their day.
And … if/when their beloved “god” does some “good thing” … immediately that becomes a festival for the followers of that “god”.
Having said that Hindus are always on the lookout for some “celebrations” in the name of some “bahana” … all their “bahanas” surely have some “Solid spiritual significance” … without which one just cannot call them as “Hindu Festival” !
Significance of Wealth in Hindu Culture
Wealth is very important for proper functioning of a house, society and country. Without wealth, we find ourselves unable to support ourselves and our families.
It is wealth which gives us the “security and support” to live life to its fullest extent. Just imagine … without weath … how will you find food that we eat … how can we get the clothes that we need … and how will we get the shelter/home that we retire to, after a long days work !
Hence … every civilization thrives on wealth … and wealth becomes an important part for the sustainance of any civilization !
All that glitters is not Gold
“All that glitters is not Gold” … goes the famous saying. It simply means that not everything is what it seems. Wondering why i am talking about Gold and its “properties” ? … Its because, i have been thinking a lot about “Gold” and “Wealth” and its significance in Hindu Culture.
The readers of my blog have by now understood that i am myself trying to “comprehend” what Hindu Culture is … and what are the factors or foundations that Hindu Culture has, which makes it survive its vast history through time immemorial.
Surely, that fact that Hindu Culture has “Survived” this long period in the Human History, means that essentially there must be some … “good and wonderful” … “essentials” … in this Hindu Civilization … those “essentials” which are must for any civilization to survive for mammoth periods of time.
Incidents happenning in the life of a “guru” act as guiding principles !
How often we have heard lives of “Gurus” being discussed and various interpretations being made out of those, by people of various religions. You name any religion, and you find “gurus” in that religion, and the incidents happenning in his/her life are learnt, analysed, discussed, and interpreted in very many ways.
Now, how do you know what “interpretation” would be the “Correct Interpretation” as far as one applies them in real life day-to-day incidents ?
Hindu Culture Vs Secularism

Jai Bharat Mata ! … Jai Hindu Rashtra !
I just read a rather interesting article in a blog which says that “India that is not secular does not deserve to exist” … which is a reproduction of the thoughts of Politician Mr. Mani Shanker Iyer in his book “Confessions of a Secular Fundamentalist”.
And what made me sit up and notice … was these two words “Secular Fundamentalist”. After all, they are also “Fundamentalists” is it ?
Australia known for its sportsmanship ? … nah !
When we think of a nation that literally Breathes, Eats and Sleeps “Sports” … instantly to our minds … the name Australia comes forth without any other second thoughts.
This is the nation … where the culture of Sports is ingrained in the very fabric of the society … and no surprises that this country has always been a great “Sporting Nation” in every game & tournment that it takes part in.
Understanding the Science of Avatars in Hinduism
I have one wonderful reader of my blog, Kali who commented that he/she has been reading a lot of literature about Hindusim, and was a bit confused as to why the different “Avatars” are being wordshipped by the Hindus.

Lord Shiva
Ujjain – The City which lives on …
Lately, i have been getting this term “Ujjain” on my lips, quite frequently. This has been happenning for some months now.
Some time back, my dad also visited this ancient city, to have a look at this place with his friends, making use of lots and lots of time in his retired life !
Restore Hindu Law to its entirety … without any amendments !
The BJP Defeat in GE-2009
The recent rout of the Saffron Brigade in the General Elections was unexpected. But, why is that we dont find it too surprising …
It was quite clear that the Saffron Brigade was illequipped in its dream of turning the country into a Hindu Rashtra … as the Hindutva Ideology was tainted with some undesired incidents in the past like the Babri Masjid Demolition … and the “perceived” Hindu hand in the Godhra Riots and Samjhawta Express blasts which killed some innocent pakistanis, who had come to our “Hindu Land” on the “Good trust” that our country was expected to show. And the “supposed hate speeches” of Varun Gandhi in Pilibhit were too a burden for the Saffron Brigade to handle, and the show of the BJP in the General Election was quite dismal.
And the BJP playing the game that Congress played … like playing into the hands of the opponent in the field the opponent is unconqurable … was quite mistake.
GE-2009 Lesson – BJP should never forget its Roots !
Congrats Congress
The general elections in 2009 has been a wonderful entertainer for those people who take interest in politics in India, and since i am in the category of those people, i am happy to conclude … the general elections were very well conducted, the festival of democracy was celebrated lavishly and with pomp.
As is the case in every elections, this time too, we have some surprising results that the political parties must have never expected.
